Things You Shouldn’t Have to Do Without!
Our Good Dog Camp is suitable for dogs five months and older. It is designed to teach your dog the very basics that every dog should have to make life with your pooch fun and manageable. It fills your dog’s tool box with proper manners, as well as your every day basic practical behaviors, including:
- place command
- proper walking on leash
- not jumping on people or furniture
- not biting or nipping
- no excessive barking
Added bonus: dogs who have graduated our Good Dog Camp are eligible for our “Advanced Companion” camp at a reduced price and shorter time-frame.
How Long is the Good Dog Camp and What Happens After?
Good Dog Camp is approximately one week long. Depending on age, breed and any issues your dog may be dealing with, some dogs will require more time. We will grant what’s needed to ensure your little one is coming home with the behaviors and foundation we expect our Camp Graduates to have. It’s part of our Guarantee – no extra charge.
For the duration of our Training Camps, your dog will live with us 24/7. Predicting that your next question will be visitation, let’s address it: While we, of course, won’t hold your dog hostage and are happy to schedule a visit with you, in most cases we DO NOT recommend it for the dog’s sake! As tempting as it is for us to want to visit, not wanting to stress our dogs unnecessarily should be the priority. After all, Camp is about our dogs and visiting tends to be for selfish reasons. Especially for dogs that take more time acclimating, a visit can also have the effect of a set-back in the training-process. That will add additional days to Camp, achieving the opposite of what you are wanting. We will gladly go over our recommendation for your specific situation.
Once Camp is completed, it’s time to show you the ropes. We will schedule a private lessons with you on the day of pick-up, in which we will teach you how to handle your pup and maintain the newly learned behaviors. No worries, we are there for any questions and more sessions, if you should not feel 100% confident in how to respond to your sweet rascal in a rebellious moment or when presented with a new challenge in daily life.
Dog Training Camp or Private Lessons?
While you can absolutely also achieve great results in Private Lessons, a Training Camp is always going to be the fastest and most effective way to achieve lasting results – and give you a little break, time to take that vacation, get your carpets cleaned or do that remodel you’ve been wanting to tackle! The decision for either should be based on the kind and severity of your pup’s issues, the time you (realistically!) have available for training & homework, as well as on your personal preference. Not everyone would like to be a part of the training process. The choice is yours. However, there are a few cases of significant behavioral issues, where we will make Training Camp mandatory for safety & effectiveness.
Keep in Mind: We are Training Living Beings, Not Engineering Robots!
Dog Training Camp is a great way to quickly & properly train any dog. In the hands of the right, experienced trainers (do your research-homework!), it will be a fun and transforming experience for your and your dog, regardless of the issues you were dealing with beforehand. However, you will not have to worry that your dog’s goofy character or fun spirit will be changed or broken. We don’t turn dogs into robots, we merely make them understand your expectations. We teach them the rules to abide by in this world. So they can enjoy a life of many freedoms that untrained dogs are not able to be granted.
Every dog, without fail, will test their boundaries with those around them. Like kids knowing how far they can go at their Grandparent’s house versus at home, or that they can get away with certain things with dad, but not with mom. Dogs are no different. They will try to get their way. Training Camp (or any other form of training for that matter), will teach them the needed obedience, however, they will listen only to those who are diligent in following through. The more black & white you are about your standards and expectations, the faster Pooches will take listening as a given, not as an option. That doesn’t mean you can’t let your dog be a dog, it just means the times you do give a command, it is followed the first time around – for your dog’s safety. Our Follow-Up Lessons are there to show you how to fly that new helicopter we built you. Without follow-up guidance, it would be of little use to you.
Lastly, the question we also get quite often: “Will our dog remember us?” – The answer is always a loud and sounding YES! You don’t have to worry, your dog will not forget you. And as much fun as Camp is, you will also not have to worry about your pup not wanting to come back home. We like to compare it to us going on a really nice vacation – no matter how much you may enjoy yourself, home will always be home!
